Connecting to the Internet with your Home PC with Windows XP

NOTE: SFA's dialup service now uses your mySFA account name and PIN for logging in, we no longer use your Titan (email) info.

Before you begin you should make sure that you have installed Windows XP correctly, that your modem is operational and installed on your computer, and that you have your mySFA account name and PIN.

Please note that SFA does not provide toll-free internet access. There may be a long distance fee charged to you.

To set up a NEW Dialup connection from home:

1. Click on the start button icon on your desktop and go to All Programs
2. From All Programs proceed to Accessories
3. From Accessories proceed to Communications
4. Under Communications select New Connection Wizard

You should then see a window labeled Location Information

1. Enter the values appropriate to your location (936 is our area code).
2. Click OK to continue

The next window should be labeled Phone and Modem Options

1. Click OK

The New Connection Wizard will now appear.

1. Click the next button to begin.

2. Select the Connect to the Internet option, then click next

3. Select Set up my connection manually, then click next

4. Select Connect using a dial-up modem, then click next

5. Click once in the ISP Name field, and type sfasu, then click next

6. Click once in the Phone number field and enter one of the following numbers that is pertinent to your situation:
Off-Campus #s: 559-2102 or 559-2119 (if dialing an area code, do not forget to enter a "1" before the rest of the field)
THEN click next to continue

7. At Connection availability, select Anyone's use and click next

8. At Internet Account Information:

A. Click once in the User Name field and enter your mySFA name.
B. Click once in the Password field and type your mySFA PIN
C. Click in the Confirm password field and re-enter your password

If the computer you are setting up is used by other people, remove the check from the box labeled "Use this account name....."
THEN click “next” to continue and then “finish” to complete the setup.

You should now see a connection window that will appear in the future each time you connect to the Internet. To connect, click on Dial, otherwise, click cancel.

Once your computer has dialed and successfully connected, you can open your Internet web browser (Netscape or Explorer) to begin browsing.
