The Jack Camp Experience: Becoming a Lumberjack

Jack Camp is an optional program for new students intended to establish friendships, learn about residence life, meet student leaders, become familiar with SFA traditions, and learn about SFA campus life in a very relaxed atmosphere. Jack Camp also allows students to get acquainted through recreation activities, intramural sports, and evening mixers.

Jack Camp as an organization works to develop new students, as well as the counselors and staff through a multitude of responsibilities. Opportunities to bond, share, work, and encourage allow the counselors and staff to learn valuable leadership and social skills. As a result, students will begin to develop relationships and a network of support that will aid in their transition to Stephen F. Austin State University.

Jack Camp is held in three sessions before classes begin to make it easier for many students to attend. The $150 fee covers meals, materials, recreation and even a welcome gift. What a value!

Once you arrive at Jack Camp, you will become part of several groups – your cabin, your family group, your tribe and your team. This will allow you to meet as many people as possible during your stay. With these groups you will play sports, enjoy team building exercises and participate in group discussions. We encourage you to meet and learn as much as you can from your counselors and fellow students. Topics for discussion will include Lumberjack Spirit, getting to know your roommate and how to navigate college from an insider’s point of view.
