How can I request a roommate?
For the Fall, Students who have a roommate preference should utilize the roommate assignment request process on the housing application and the residence life office will try to accommodate each request but cannot guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled.
Students with roommate preferences must mutually request each other by using their SFA student ID number only and list the same facility preferences in the same order. For the fall you can go online to make unit selections from June 1 - August 1 (excluding Mondays and Tuesdays). After these dates students will have to go through room changes and/or facility transfers; see calendar for these dates.
If I am assigned to Garner or University Woods, will I be assigned a roommate?
If I am in a room by myself, will I be assigned a roommate?
Yes, after Priority Sign Up/Cancellation is complete, all students who are left without a roommate will be consolidated. This means that you may be assigned a roommate or you will be reassigned to another room. All returning students will have a roommate assigned before new resident assignments are made in June.
Please check your housing information periodically during the summer to view any changes made in your assignment.
When will I know which facility I have been assigned to and who my roommate will be?
Fall Assignments are made after June 1 and contracts are due by July 15.
Spring Assignments are made after November 1 and contracts are due by December 1.
Summer Assignments are made after May 1.
Assignments are made based on the date the Housing Application is received and the date they are admitted to the university. Students who are admitted late, apply for housing late, fail to sign their contract by the deadline, or have been suspended and readmitted late, may not receive a permanent assignment until the first day of class. Students can view their assignment through their mySFA account . You will see who your roommate is at this time. Plus, you can send your roommate a message, too ( see screen shots). For more information, please see the #7 on the New Student Checklist or #2 of the Returning Student Checklist.
