SFASU campus, Thomas J. Rusk Building, Room 328
Cost
First-time cost of exam is $65.00 for all 5 sections.
Retakes are $15.00 per section of the test.
Eligibility
- Age: The applicant must be 18 years old. An applicant who is 17 years old must have written parental or
guardian consent. An applicant who is 16 years old must have a court order.
- Educational Status: The applicant must not have received a high school
diploma from an accredited high school in the United States. The applicant
must not be enrolled in school, unless the applicant is enrolled in a High
School Equivalency Program (HSEP).
- Applicants age 17 or less year must provide an official withdrawal from
the last high school they attended or provide the necessary HSEP forms.
- Retakes: Applicants must wait 6 months before retaking a GED test or applicants
may obtain a letter from an Adult Learning Center authorizing a retake exam
prior to the 6 month waiting period.
Testing Procedures
- Those wanting to test must pre-register by paying their fees on the 3rd
floor of the Rusk Building, Room 328 at SFASU.
- Those needing information may call 936-468-3958.
- Special Accommodations: Candidates may request special accommodations
for physical, mental, sensory or learning disabilities. Candidates needing
accommodations must contact Testing Services at (936) 468-3958 for additional
information.
- First-time examinees taking the Language Arts/Writing Text and/or the
Mathematics tests must report to Rusk 328 by 7:15 a.m.
- First-time examinees taking the Science, Social Studies, and/or the Language
Arts/Reading tests must report to Rusk 328 by 12:00 noon.
- First time cost of the exam is $65.00 for all 5 tests.
- Retakes are $15.00 per section of the test.
- Please be aware that we no longer score the tests at Stephen F. Austin
State University.
- Score reports will be sent to the examinee from The Texas Education Agency
in Austin.
- Expect score reports to arrive 2-4 weeks after testing.
Additional Information
- Cellular telephones, beepers, cameras, all photographic communication,
computers, and electronic devices are strictly prohibited in the testing
room.
- Photo Identification Required: Photo bearing driver's license, photo bearing
Texas Department of Public Safety Identification Card, photo bearing passport,
photo bearing military identification card.
- Your identification must be current. Expired forms of ID are not acceptable.
- Candidates are not permitted to bring purses, tote bags, portable music
players, hand-held electronic games, food/drink items, textbooks (including
dictionaries), notebooks, supplies, jackets, or coats, hats, or other nonessential
items to their seats in the testing room.
- Calculators will be provided
- Bring two #2 pencils, photo identification, social security card, and
re-test authorization (if applicable).
- Food, drinks, gum and candy are NOT permitted in the testing room.

GED Privacy Policy - Shortened Version
New forms of the GED Tests are expected January 1, 2012. The scores on your test report cannot be combined with the 2012 series of the GED Tests. By December 31, 2011 you must have earned a total passing score of at least 2250 (450 average) with no score less than 410, or you will need to take the entire 2012 series.
